When talking about Ceppo we do not refer only to Ceppo di Gré, there are other many stone types coming from Lombardy which are or were know under this name. Probably this is due to the ancient lombardic term "Scepp" or "Cep" which means stone, a stone used for building construction. Nowadays Ceppo is extracted only from our quarry, situated on the north-West bank of Iseo Lake, in the village of Castro (Bergamo). So the combination of both the type and the geographical origin of the material makes Ceppo di Gré something unique in the world. Furthermore, thanks to Ceppo di Gré mineralogical composition, each slab is different from the others.
